e-petition to help create a marine reserve in the Chagos Islands

Monday 25 Jan 2010

Hi Tom,

Care2 members in the UK have an incredible opportunity: The Chagos Islands, one of the most pristine marine ecosystems left on earth, is on the path toward becoming the largest protected marine reserve controlled by the UK. But the powers-that-be need to hear from you how important these islands in the Indian Ocean really are.

Tell the UK government that you support
the creation of a marine reserve in the Chagos Islands >>

Marine life around the globe is threatened by pollution, over-exploitation and bycatch. Protecting the Chagos, and the more than 1,000 species of fish -- some of which are found nowhere else on earth -- would be a crucial step toward protecting other coral reefs around the world.

There isn't much time left: We only have until 12 February 2010 to let the UK government know how special and critical this marine area is.
Voice your support for providing the Chagos Islands
with the maximum protection possible >>
